This paper presents a new control and management system that can be used in the steel reinforcement industry. The system is based on the merging of two algorithms: one-dimensional cutting stock and leftover control algorithms. The system aims to minimize the material waste, maximize the usage of steel leftovers and minimize steel recycling. Two leading factories in the Kingdom of Bahrain participated in testing the developed algorithms and implementing the proposed system for controlling and managing their steel waste. Several real operations were accomplished to validate the effectiveness and efficiency of the developed system. A real case is presented in this paper to demonstrate the material saving acquired through the handling of leftovers.
