Stress can induce many physiological changes as the sympathetic nervous system is activated, and some of the stress related physiological responses can be obscured by exercise. In this work, we develop an algorithm to detect stress and exercise using noninvasive measurements of physiological variables. We generate features from the measurements to enhance the discrimination between the exercise and stress states. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm to detect stress or exercise, or both, is demonstrated through experiments with approximately 72.4% accuracy.
