We have developed a bionic vision system based on wirelessly powered implants for the primary visual cortex, each with 43 microelectrodes. There have been many engineering and medical challenges to overcome to produce a long lasting, biocompatible, safe and effective implant. These issues will be explored in this presentation. The design and timing of the first-in-human trial will be discussed.
