Abstract

We have analyzed and extracted data from 15 papers on the use of three-dimensional (3D) printing in liver surgery. Reviewed studies have covered predominately models used in preoperative planning and as an intraoperative guidance. It has also been noted that most of developed 3D-printed structures have been accurate enough to provide valuable insight and might be advantageous in comparison to standard medical imaging techniques. A few challenges, including high costs of production, time-consuming fabrication process and lack of qualified staff limit the scaling of reported implementations.
