Session: Recent Advances on Cuff-Less Blood Pressure Measurement Technology I

Abstract

Blood pressure (BP) measurement, which is a strong biomarker for diagnosing hypertension, has traditionally been done in clinical settings. This practice thus suffers from several limitations, both clinically (intermittent monitoring, problem in recording early morning readings white coat hypertension), as well as for low-resource large population application such as in India (access to health facility, availability of trained personnel, accessible record maintenance and others). Therefore in order to address this problem we have developed an affordable, cuffless and non-invasive BP measuring device. It works on the principle of applanation tonometry and employs novel design strategies and signal processing algorithm to faithfully measure the pressure pulses.
