Abstract

In this abstract, we propose an automated multimodal system that continuously monitors neonates during postoperative pain and provides assessment of their condition. Our proposed system uses affordable and non-invasive device to continuously record different behavioral pain indicators. It then combines the recorded behavioral signals with vital sign readings obtained using Phillips MP-70 monitor, which is regularly used in most NICUs. We are the first to propose an automated multimodal system for assessing postoperative pain of neonates in clinical environments. The continuous monitoring of postoperative pain can provide immediate, consistent, and less subjective pain assessment, which contributes to improved intervention and long-term outcomes.
