Based on pulse wave analysis, we have developed a new technique to monitor the changes in blood pressure using a photoplethysmography (PPG) sensor. This technique extracts physiologically motivated features from the PPG waveform and combines the features to estimate systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) individually. The proposed technology has been validated in accordance with IEEE standard 1708-2014. It is the very first to show reliable error performance under the IEEE protocol for daily BP changes. Here, the mean absolute differences (MADs) of the estimated SBP and DBP for 89 subjects, compared to their references, were less than 7mmHg.
