This study aimed at making a first step towards the development of a smart helmet for monitoring and controlling thermal comfort of bicyclists. It was demonstrated that compact linear transfer function models allow modelling the thermal response to changes in a helmet's convective heat transfer coefficient. Such models can be used as a basis for monitoring thermal comfort and for actively adapting the thermal characteristics of smart helmets in real-time.
