Abstract

Iron deficiency (ID) is the most widespread nutritional deficiency in the world that causes adverse maternal and child health outcomes. Measurement of serum ferritin and soluble transferrin receptor (sTfR) are more accurate than classic red cell indices in the assessment of ID. Here, we report the development and validation of ironPhone, the first mobile device-coupled portable diagnostics for quantification of serum ferritin and sTfR concentrations, within a few minutes, from a drop of fingerprick blood.
