This minisymposia presentation introduces image analysis methods for obtaining characteristic information from dental x-ray images for dental forensic identification. Unlike previous methods, our proposed methods using deep convolutional neural networks can classify tooth types and tooth conditions without precise segmentation of individual teeth. Such systems have a potential for assisting in systematic filing of antemortem dental information and reducing psychological burden in postmortem examination in large scale disasters.
