The paper introduces medical video analysis as a big data problem and highlights the potential of large-scale video analytics in healthcare. It provides a brief review of existing imaging techniques and the recent emergence, promise, and challenges associated with large-scale video analysis methods. Moreover, the paper describes large-scale video processing paradigms with respect to time-requirements and computational complexity. Finally, it summarizes recent methods that leverage storing and processing requirements of high-dimensional image and video data using big data technologies.
