Globally, Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG) accounts for 106 million new sexually transmitted infections (STIs) per year. Because traditional diagnostic methods can be expensive, labor-intensive, and time-intensive, patients in resource-constrained settings often remain undiagnosed. The availability of a reliable, affordable diagnostic tool will enable the accurate diagnosis and treatment of NG infections. Here, we describe a novel diagnostic device which requires minimal instrumentation and training. Our integrated sample-to-answer' system provides a simple and sensitive visual readout for NG on a paper microfluidic in less than an hour.
